Fungal Nail Laser Treatment
The PinPointe FootLaser was introduced in July 2008 after years of research and development. The PinPointe FootLaser is a major leap forward in medical technology to safely treat toenail fungus. The PinPointe FootLaser is a patented laser device that is specifically designed to kill toenail fungus. Clinical studies demonstrate the PinPointe FootLaser significantly reduces toenail infection.
How does it work? The PinPointe FootLaser kills the fungus that lives in and under the toenail. The laser light passes through the toenail without causing damage to the nail or the surrounding skin. At the time of the procedure, the toenail will not become instantly clear--it takes time to grow out.
What can patients expect? Patients can expect a consultation with Dr Cirlincione explaining the procedure to be performed and the follow-up visits to be prescribed.
Can the patient expect more than one treatment? One treatment kills the fungus for most patients. Dr Cirlincione will determine if the patient needs follow-up care.
Is the procedure painful? Most patients feel no pain. Some may feel a warming sensation and very few feel a pinprick.
Is there a recovery period? No. Just walk in and walk out.
How long does the procedure take? The Footlaser procedure takes less than 30 minutes.
Will the fungus grow back? The fungus is killed after one treatment, and Dr Cirlincione can recommend care techniques to reduce a recurrence of the infection. There is a chance of reinfection because the fungus is present everywhere in the environment.
When can patients paint their nails or have a pedicure? Patients should remove all nail polish and nail decorations the day before their treatment. Patients can apply polish and have a pedicure immediately after the treatment.
What are physicians charging for this procedure? Generally, physicians charge about $1,200 per procedure.
What kind of payments are accepted for the procedure? Credit cards, cash, and money orders are accepted. Patients may also use their Medical IRA, Health Savings or Flexible Spending Accounts.
Can the procedure be covered by their insurance? If patients have a Health Savings Account or Medical IRA, 100% of cost can be covered. However, in most situations, this procedure is considered aesthetic, and therefore health insurance plans do not provide coverage.
How long has this procedure been performed? Clinical studies began in November 2007 demonstrating over an 88% success rate.
Is this procedure FDA cleared? Yes, this procedure is cleared by the FDA.
Who developed this laser procedure? Leading scientists and medical professionals working together for 20 years with funding provided by the National Institutes of Health developed the technology in the patented PinPointe FootLaser.
